At the most recent BC Honda Vancouver Squash League AGM (March 10, 2012) several motions regarding rules were proposed and approved.

They are as follows:

> Rule 5.2.3 has been amended to allow matches missed before Christmas to be rescheduled in January.

Rule 5.2.3 – ORIGINAL
Matches missed for unforseeable circumstances (i.e., snowstorms) must be rescheduled promptly. A missed match before Christmas must be rescheduled and played during the Christmas break. Those missed after Christmas must be rescheduled and played up to and including the last scheduled match in that division.

Rule 5.2.3 – REVISED
Matches missed for unforeseeable circumstances (i.e., snowstorms) must be rescheduled promptly. A missed match before Christmas must be rescheduled and played either during the Christmas break or in the month of January following. Those missed after Christmas must be rescheduled and played up to and including the last scheduled match in that division.

> A new rule, Rule 7.3.4, was introduced that specifically deals with outcome of a defaulted match.

Rule 7.3.4 – NEW
In the case of a team defaulting, the winning team will receive the average of their scores in the cycle in which the default occurs.

> Rule 8.1.3 was revised. QuickDraws, (specifically the VSL rankings on QuickDraws), is now the standard for organizing a team roster.

Rule 8.1.3 – ORIGINAL
Quick Draws’ ranking system may be used by captains as a source of information to decide a player’s position on their team roster.

Rule 8.1.3 – NEW
Quick Draws (VSL) ranking system is to be used by captains to decide a player’s position on their team roster, unless otherwise agreed before play.

> Two new rules regarding AGM protocols were introduced.

Rule 10.1.1 – NEW
The VSL AGM will follow a fixed order of business in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order.

Rule 10.1.2 – NEW
A proxy may be used at the AGM.  A proxy form must be signed only by the captain of a team and may be given to anyone of his/her choosing who is attending in person at the AGM.  The proxy form will be used for voting on matters that are listed on the AGM agenda only, where the captain has given his/her vote(s) to their proxy on those matters, and not on matters raised for the first time and voted on at the AGM.

Last night the BC Honda VSL held it’s inaugural Captain’s Meeting in the social lounge of the Jericho Tennis Club. We had over 30 people attend and partake in refreshments and the winner of the $50 gift certificate to “Local” restaurant was Doug Hodgins. Congrats!

The board would like to thank club pro Shauna Flath, catering manager Rhonda Porter and AV superstar Dara Sklar for their help in organizing and running this event. We hope to run this event every year and we look forward to any feedback you might have.

If you were unable to attend, a Word document entitled “A Guide to Captaining in the VSL” is now available for download.

Scoring Systems for this year’s league.

Filed Under Info for Captains, Info for Club Reps, Info for players, Scoring | Comments Off on Scoring Systems for this year’s league.

Our season starts tomorrow and there still seems to be confusion about which division is playing with which official scoring system. Below is a quick and official reminder of the official scoring systems that will be in place for the 2009/2010 VSL season:

Division One OPEN – PAR 11
Division One WOMEN – PAR 15
Divisions 2 through 8 OPEN and WOMEN – Hand In, Hand Out to 9.

Please note that the above scoring systems will be in effect throughout the season and can only be discussed, changed or debated at the next AGM (date TBD). We hope that you attend the next AGM to voice your opinion and vote on the direction that the league takes in future seasons.

Have a great season!

Div 1 Scoring Survey Results

Filed Under Info for Captains, Scoring | Comments Off on Div 1 Scoring Survey Results

The results of the Division 1 survey, that was requested during the VSL AGM, are in. For the 2009/2010 season both Open Division 1 and Women’s Division 1 will use Par 11 (Point A Rally).

Divisions 2 through 8, Open and Women’s, will continue to use HiHo (Hand In, Hand Out) scoring to 9 as mentioned in the previous post.

Scoring system for the 2009/2010 season

Filed Under Info for Captains, Info for Club Reps, Scoring | Comments Off on Scoring system for the 2009/2010 season

During the VSL’s AGM a motion was put forward to have the VSL maintain the existing scoring system of HiHo, or “Hand-In-Hand-Out” scoring to 9, for all divisions. This motion was voted on by the membership and passed unanimously. Therefore Divisions 2 through 8 will continue with HiHo for the 2009/2010 season.

Following the vote, an amendment was forwarded to have the VSL survey Division 1 players, those who played in that division last year and the two new teams moving up, on whether they wish to continue with HiHo scoring or switch to PAR 11. Results of this survey will be posted online by July 15, 2009.

It should be noted that while the World Squash Federation has chosen PAR 11 as the new “standard scoring method” the governing body still recognizes both HiHo and PAR to 15 as approved scoring systems.

2nd Cycle of 2008/2009 Season has begun.

Filed Under Info for Captains, Info for players, Schedules | Comments Off on 2nd Cycle of 2008/2009 Season has begun.

Welcome back everyone. Just a quick reminder to all captains that if you select a “Default/Guest”, when entering your scores, it is YOUR responsibility to inform the League Coordinator whether or not the match was a true default or not. If someone did spare for your team you must submit their name and ensure they register with Squash BC before they play for your team a second time.

Also, it is the home captain’s responsibility to enter match results as soon as possible. (Ideally the VSL would like all results entered on same night that the match was played.) As the season gets closer to the playoffs captains will be checking the rankings more often and everyone appreciates an updated results page. Be advised that Monday night match results MUST be entered no later than noon on Wednesday and Tuesday night results MUST be entered no later than noon on Thursday. Results entered later than this will become subject to a two (2) point penalty.

Lastly, the VSL would like to ask all captains to properly rank their players on their team roster – you know, 1 through 5. There are some teams that have have every player on their team listed as a “#1” and that’s not  good thing:) Those teams that feel that all players on their team are interchangeable must then rank their team based on the rankings.

Good luck in the rest of the season.
