There are two scoring sheets needed for league play. The first is for keeping score of a single game and the second is for recording the night’s matches.
Captains should download both PDFs.

New Scoring Systems

Filed Under Announcements, Scoring | Comments Off on New Scoring Systems

The scoring systems for the 2010/2011 season were discussed and voted on at the most recent AGM. The choices were “Hand in/Hand Out to 9” or “PAR – Point A Rally”. These are the results:

OPEN DIVISIONS
All Open Divisions (1-8) will score using PAR 11.
This system allows either player to score points regardless of whether they are serving or receiving. The server, on winning a stroke, scores a point and retains the service; the receiver, on winning a stroke, scores a point and becomes the server.

In the event of a 10-10 tie the winner is the first player to score two points clear of their opponent (ie: 12-10 or 13-11).  The matches will remain a best of five.

WOMEN’S DIVISIONS
All Women’s Divisions (1-7) will score using PAR 15. This system allows either player to score points regardless of whether they are serving or receiving as in PAR 11. The server, on winning a stroke, scores a point and retains the service; the receiver, on winning a stroke, scores a point and becomes the server.

In the event of a 14-14 tie the receiver (not the server) will choose to continue that game to fifteen (“Set 1”) or to seventeen points (“Set 3”). With “Set 1” the player to score the NEXT point wins. With “Set 3” it is the first player to get to 17 points that wins. The matches will remain a best of five.

Scoring Systems for this year’s league.

Our season starts tomorrow and there still seems to be confusion about which division is playing with which official scoring system. Below is a quick and official reminder of the official scoring systems that will be in place for the 2009/2010 VSL season:

Division One OPEN – PAR 11
Division One WOMEN – PAR 15
Divisions 2 through 8 OPEN and WOMEN – Hand In, Hand Out to 9.

Please note that the above scoring systems will be in effect throughout the season and can only be discussed, changed or debated at the next AGM (date TBD). We hope that you attend the next AGM to voice your opinion and vote on the direction that the league takes in future seasons.

Have a great season!

Div 1 Scoring Survey Results

The results of the Division 1 survey, that was requested during the VSL AGM, are in. For the 2009/2010 season both Open Division 1 and Women’s Division 1 will use Par 11 (Point A Rally).

Divisions 2 through 8, Open and Women’s, will continue to use HiHo (Hand In, Hand Out) scoring to 9 as mentioned in the previous post.

Scoring system for the 2009/2010 season

During the VSL’s AGM a motion was put forward to have the VSL maintain the existing scoring system of HiHo, or “Hand-In-Hand-Out” scoring to 9, for all divisions. This motion was voted on by the membership and passed unanimously. Therefore Divisions 2 through 8 will continue with HiHo for the 2009/2010 season.

Following the vote, an amendment was forwarded to have the VSL survey Division 1 players, those who played in that division last year and the two new teams moving up, on whether they wish to continue with HiHo scoring or switch to PAR 11. Results of this survey will be posted online by July 15, 2009.

It should be noted that while the World Squash Federation has chosen PAR 11 as the new “standard scoring method” the governing body still recognizes both HiHo and PAR to 15 as approved scoring systems.
